Two weeks since the disappearance of UP Baguio alumni and activists Dexter Capuyan and Gene Roz Jamil “Bazoo” De Jesus, Kalipunan Mamamayan sa Pilipinas (KATRIBU) confirmed that the two were abducted by the agents of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) on May 10 at Taytay, Rizal.
In a press conference at Karapatan Office, KATRIBU said that Capuyan and De Jesus were last seen on the evening of April 28 at SM Hypermarket Taytay and were forced to ride three vehicles by the unidentified agents from the CIDG.
KATRIBU convenor Beverly Longid said that days before the two activists went missing, unfamiliar individuals suspected as state agents were observed in the vicinity of the abduction.
“The recent disappearance of Dexter and Bazoo is just another display of the regime’s cruel and oppressive tactics against those who speak out against the incompetent and oppressive nature of the state,” Longid added.
The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) has also made a statement on its website about the disappearance of De Jesus and Capuyan as they are calling for an “exhaustive effort” in the search for the two activists while promising to continue the investigation and maintain transparency on the said case.
