The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) on Wednesday, May 17, released the partial and unofficial tally of votes for the 2023 Student Council Elections (SCE) at the University of Philippines Baguio.
The Alliance of Concern Students (ACS) standard bearer Cathleen “Degz” De Guzman outnumbered Alternatibong Katipunan ng mga Mag-aaral sa UP (AKMA)’s Korinne “Korns” Laza for the chairpersonship post leading with 60% more votes. De Guzman garnered 677 votes, while Laza had 363. Students who abstained went as high as 384.
ACS vice-chairperson candidate Mar Clarence “Mar” Quinto put up a landslide lead over AKMA’s John Rafael "Red" Mateo garnering 1,255 votes.
Both winners for post positions are bearers of the ACS slate, which has taken a landslide victory in the councilors polls against AKMA and a few independent runners.
The ACS won all of its seats at the council but lost one seat among its representatives. A total of 10 councilors, 3 College of Arts and Communication (CAC) Representatives, 2 College of Social Sciences (CSS) Representatives, and 3 College of Science (CS) Representatives held their positions for the 2023 USC officials.
Among all winners, only Carl Angelo Tampos who ran independently penetrated the council leading the spokesperson representative position for the College of Social Science.
According to UP Baguio COMELEC, the voter turnout for the first hybrid USC student elections was 60.74% with a total number of 2,598 students.
